Here are a few sketchbook pages from today, still working on my character designs and the 3rd Year film that I'm helping with, as well as my group project, and I've been trying to get started on my essay too...SO MUCH TO DO!

Today was the second half of the character design workshop. I still need to continue developing my character and draw a turn-around of her, but so far I'm really pleased with how she looks.

Ballerina
Here are my sketchbook pages from the Character Design workshop. I decided to draw an overweight ballerina- I'm still just trying out different silhouettes and poses, but so far I love her chunky, masculine shape, and her massive bottom half in the final two pages!

A very productive day!
Today at Uni we had life drawing in the morning, as usual, and then a Character Design workshop in the afternoon which was SO MUCH FUN. It was run by Gillian Reid, a freelance character designer, and she showed us her process of designing and developing characters. I'm really keen to develop my character designs this term, and it was really interesting to see the whole process, and Gillian's work is absolutely amazing. I'm feeling very inspired! I didn't have time to scan my sketchbook pages from the workshop today, and so I'll blog them tomorrow.
Here are a few of my life drawings from this morning. We only had 1 hour in the life room, and so I don't feel like I drew anything that I'm particularly pleased with.
Yesterday, I drew a few character designs of a bull for the 3rd Year film that I am assisting on. I'm really pleased with these, and they were so fun to draw.
Whilst I was waiting for life drawing to start this morning, I doodled this page of strange little characters.

I've had a very productive day and finally completed my storyboard. Here is my final storyboard, and some pages of my rough sketches and ideas. I'm excited to start working on the animatic next week, and hopefully I will be able to sort out the timing. I also met with the director of the film I'm working on, and I've been given some storyboarding and research to do, it's nice to be so busy! I feel like I will have a really full portfolio by the end of term if I keep working at this pace!

Today, I finally created this rough version of my storyboard. With only 4 seconds of animation, I've been trying to figure out the best way to make my character move without the timing feeling rushed, and I've been trying out so many different storyboards that I'm so pleased to have a (hopefully) finalised idea. I need to complete a new, cleaned-up storyboard by the end of today, hopefully, ready to make the animatic with the rest of my group next week.
Here are a few doodles that I did yesterday evening as a break from Uni work. Having a break from drawing with more drawing.

I was in Oxford this weekend and here are two pages of drawings that I did on the train home (the second page is people at the station that I drew when my train was delayed by 2 hours!) Oxford is my favourite city in the whole world, and I am so grateful that I get to visit so often. I spent a year living there whilst I was on my Art Foundation course at Oxford Brookes, and I miss it so much now that I have left! Bournemouth is nice, but Oxford is very 'me'. I love the beautiful old buildings, and I always get bike-envy at all the pretty bikes everywhere!
I seem to have endless work to do at Uni at the moment. I started my weekly life drawing again today which was really nice after such a long break over Summer. Here are a few more drawings of my baseball character. I've started the storyboard, and hopefully will finish it by the end of the week!

Here are a few (very badly scanned) pages from my sketchbook of what I've been doing at Uni recently. I have no idea why these have scanned like this. My group project is going really, really well so far, and I've been mainly trying to get used to drawing the character and developing my character's personality through my drawings. We were also set a 3000 word essay today...shockingly, I'm quite looking forward to this, as I love to write, and don't have many opportunities to do so!

Today was the start of my first project of the year at Uni- my group and I (myself and 3 others) have to create a 16 second animation of a baseball game. We each have to animate 4 seconds of our own character, and design the layout for our own sections. We have been given a character sheet, as the project is assessed solely on the character animation. The project lasts until Christmas, so I'm excited to have a nice amount of time to create something I will hopefully be really pleased with! Here are a few quick sketches from today, trying to get used to the character.
Here are few pages of doodles from my sketchbook. I was a bit stuck for what to draw yesterday, so painted the page yellow and gave up. I woke up in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep, and drew these colourful characters.

Here are a few pages of doodles from yesterday. I love to draw faces and facial expressions, and I think that these have turned out really well. I'm not very pleased with how they have scanned, and how prominent the fold in the page is- I need to buy a new Moleskine because the paper lays flat which I love, they are my absolute favourite thing to draw in. A nice sketchbook makes such a huge difference to the way I draw!

Back to Uni
I have now been back in Bournemouth for almost 3 weeks, and it is so nice to back and into a really nice new house with my 5 lovely housemates- I've been desperate to post on here, but I stupidly left my scanner at home, and so I've only just managed to get to the library to scan a few pages of recent drawings. This week at Uni was 'Pitch Week', where the 3rd years pitch their graduate film ideas to the 1st and 2nd years, and it was really interesting to see some of their ideas (...some better than others!) I've chosen to specialise in stop-motion this year, and there is one stop-motion film in particular that I would really love to work on, so I will have to wait and see which one I get allocated to (unfortunately, we can't chose!) It was a difficult choice between 2D and Stop-Motion, but I settled on Stop-Motion because I have always been interested in the process of stop-motion, and I feel that I have so much to learn. I know that I should start to teach myself 3D, but so far I have managed to avoid it- I love to draw, and I just can't make myself become interested in working on a computer! Anyway, I have no Uni work to show yet- our first project starts next week, but here are a few pages of people-watching that I've done since being in Bournemouth. I wish I could work out how to improve the quality of the images on here, they always seem to look a bit fuzzy and small!
